Galaktos

The Galaktos is a model I designed because I wanted something that looked unsual. Right from the start I decided it had to have a V-tail, retracts and I wanted the tuned-muffler (it's not a pipe) to be under the fuselage. Furthermore I wanted to use the OS-max 32 F-ABC engine I use for all my smaller models (since this is the only smaller engine I got ).

Technical Specification:
Type:                  Sport / Pattern
Span:                  1.20 m.
Wing area:         26.50 dm2
Length:              0.97 m.
Weight:              1900 g.
Wing loading:   71.7 g/dm2
Radio req.:        4/5-channel (elevator, rudder, ailerons, throttle, (retracts)).
Engine:              .25 - .40 ci 2-stroke

The Galaktos turned out very well and lived up to all my expectations. It looks very unusual on the field between the other "normal" planes, is very fast and tracks beautifully.
The only modification I made was to replace the retracts by a fixed alumium gear, because I didn't like the fact that after 2-3 unintentional harder (as they always are...) then usual landings the gear would not retract completely anymore. It turned out that the 5 mm piano-wire gear-legs I used could not withstand the impacts. After some modification I found that 6 mm gear-legs stood up very well to my landings, although by this time I had learned to land this plane much much better.
But I still decided to install a fixed aluminium gear.
