I unlocked my Athlon XP1800+ as is described on the VR-Zone
website.:

The Tools used were: Arctic Silver II (to close the L1-bridges), Silicon-based
heat transfer paste (to fill the laser-dots between the L1-bridges) and a needle
(to apply the Artic Silver II).
As can be seen on the core I got a ASKSA 1800+.

In the first picture you can see the laser-dots between the 5 L1 bridges.
Underneath these laser-dots lies a fine copper mesh which prevents us from
unlocking the L1-bridges with the pencil-trick. If done so, the L1-bridges would
be short-circuited and the CPU would still be locked. The trick is to isolate
this copper-mesh, which I did with silicon-based heat transfer paste.
In the second picture you can see that I applied a generous amount of paste.

With a clean piece of clothe I carefully wiped of the excess silicon paste,
the result can be seen in the first picture.
With a very small amount of Arctic Silver II on the tip of the needle I
carefully "painted" the L1-bridges, taking care not to connect 2
consecutive L1-bridges.
After having successfully closed all5 L1-bridges I sealed my work with a small
piece of Scotch-tape.
Next: The KT266A Northbridge.
